14 August 2002 The OutMate Sanctuary, a site designed to assist and encourage the families/friends/supporters of Mississippi inmates is finally up and running. It will work well with Mississippi Justice which we launched a few days ago. This shifts the emphasis of our efforts away, slightly, from concentrating on Cameron's case but it is a job that someone should be doing and it will not hurt our efforts for Cameron. In fact, it is a work he wants to continue after he is home again. Visit us at: http://www.outmatesanctuary.com |

Mississippi Justice 27 July 2002 When Cameron's problems with the legal system started in 1997 he was a police officer, recently out of the Academy, and looking forward to a long career. He believed, as most Americans seem to, that if an innocent person was convicted and imprisoned it was probably just some sort a mistake and did not happen often. When he began to see the law from the other side of the badge he was in for a rude awakening! He found that, not only do Law Enforcement officers and prosecutors accuse and prosecute the innocent, for reasons that have nothing to do with crime and punishment but, that it is a fairly common occurrence! It is not as simple as the assumption that a criminal will frequently protest his innocence in the face of credible evidence to the contrary; it is that police officials and prosecutors will arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate people they know to be innocent! DNA evidence which has recently been made available, along with more public awareness, has begun to correct the problem... but we have a very long way to go. Early in the case we began to look for similar cases in order to see what we could learn from them as to what they had done and were doing to solve the problem. We quickly found several advocacy groups with an on-line presence. Among the most impressive is The Innocence Projects. They have used DNA technology to facilitate the eventual release of more than 100 individuals who were wrongly convicted. These were innocent Americans in prison, some on Death Row, either for alleged crimes which had never occurred or crimes they had never been involved in. Other groups, Truth in Justice, The Association in Defense of The Wrongly Convicted, Innocent! and other similar organizations are doing an equally good job on cases not directly related to DNA evidence. What we did not find was any organization offering any real assistance specifically to the wrongly convicted in Mississippi. When we begin to look at violations of Constitutional Rights, Civil Rights, Legal Rights, Human Rights and Police & Prosecutorial Misconduct and Official Corruption... Mississippi is the bottom of the barrel! Cameron, who as of now is still incarcerated, with the help of Family, Friends, and supporters on the outside, has decided to launch an organization to close that gap. "Mississippi-Justice.com" will offer wrongly convicted citizens in Mississippi a forum in which to tell their story and seek re-dress for the injustice inflicted upon them by the travesty of "Mississippi Justice". We expect to be up and running in a matter of days and will keep you posted! Watch This Space! DMT |

New Brief Filed...! 18 July 2002 Jerry Young, of Waide & Associates, informed me, in a phone conversation earlier today, that the attorneys have filed a new brief in conjunction with our "Petition for Post Conviction Relief" which is still pending before the Supreme Court of Mississippi. This development should be encouraging to some of Cameron's supporters who were beginning to despair of seeing any further action on the case. The court has held our petition without acting on it for several months now and we are hoping that the new brief may inspire them to finally act. We will keep you posted! DMT |

"Truth in Justice" Link! The case has come to the attention of the folks at the "Truth in Justice" site and they now have a link to "The Cameron Todd Page" on their "Innocent Imprisoned" site. This may bring us help and advice from others with more experience in fighting corruption and the "Witch hunt" brand of Criminal Justice. |
